The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction not a destination.”

  Carl R. Rogers

We can all experience times in our lives where we feel unable to cope, lost or unhappy. This can lead to feeling alone, overwhelmed, anxious and perhaps a sense that we don't know who we are anymore.   Counselling can help you reconnect to who you are, offering support and understanding as you navigate and make sense of your emotions.  My intention is to provide you with the compassionate support you need to empower you to take on the challenges life gives you.

About Me

Hello, I'm Vicky...

I'm a qualified person-centred counsellor and a registered member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I currently offer telephone and online sessions. My training allows me to provide counselling that is safe and supportive, adhering to the BACP's ethical framework and guidelines.

My style of counselling is to offer a warm, calm space where you feel accepted, respected and heard. I draw mostly on the person-centred approach and am committed to offering my clients a space to freely explore their experiences at a pace and manner that works for them.

Counselling is a collaborative process and central to our work will be the relationship we create together.  As your counsellor I will offer you empathy, honesty, and authenticity and over time we will hope to build trust and connection.  I want you to feel supported but also challenged, so that you develop your awareness of self, relationships with others and the world around you. I aim to make counselling feel like a positive experience, one that we navigate together.

I currently divide my time between private practice, working with an NHS charity offering counselling to those effected by cancer and bereavement and completing my Masters level dissertation.

About Counselling

Counselling offers a safe and confidential space in which to explore your feelings. You may well find that talking with a professional counsellor feels very different from confiding in family and friends. An impartial and non-judgemental counsellor can provide clients with a real sense of freedom to discuss their lives openly and without fear of upsetting or annoying others. It is not unusual for clients to begin counselling seeking help in one area of their life only to find themselves exploring other unresolved experiences.

Counselling offers:

  • A safe impartial space to explore troublesome thoughts and feelings

  • An opportunity to reflect on your problems and address difficult issues

  • A path towards better understanding of yourself, and why you may tend to repeat unhelpful behaviour

  • A place to grieve, and deal with loss

In person-centred theory, there is great emphasis on ongoing growth and self-awareness, that this continual striving leads us towards the best and most authentic version of ourselves.  Some of the changes clients might hope to see through their counselling journey are:

  • A greater sense and acceptance of who you are at your core

  • Learning to live and be more in the present moment

  • More satisfying ways to manage your thoughts and feelings

  • The ability to value your own sense of self worth

  • Making sense of how the past impacts you now

  • Recognising and understanding feelings of anxiety

  • Insight into your relationships with others

  • Increased openness to change

  • Greater resilience

Services & Fees

Services

Counselling can be either a short or longer term process, entirely depending on what you want.

Short term counselling – perhaps 6-8 sessions – can be useful to give you the space to process and gain insight into particular issues you are currently experiencing.  It can help you to reconnect to you, allowing you to rediscover trust in your own decisions and choices.

Longer term counselling  can be helpful where perhaps you feel that historic issues or events are impacting the way you feel and behave in your life now, perhaps even many years later.  It can also help develop your self awareness and gain insight into patterns of behaviour or emotions you are experiencing. It can be traumatic to revisit events from the past, so be reassured that the person-centred approach is to focus on what is happening for you right now. Healing doesn't require you to talk about the past and I will never push you to do so. Instead,  I will be alongside you as you choose the direction to explore.

I currently offer adults online counselling sessions, over telephone or Zoom which I find provides clients with flexibility and accessibility benefits.

Sessions & Availability

Initial 20 minute Consultation - free

If you are interested in counselling, the first step is for us to have a brief telephone chat.  This gives us the chance to talk about your expectations and previous experiences of counselling and for me to ensure that I have the right skills and experience to support you.  It also gives you the chance to ask any questions you might have about counselling or my approach.  Counselling can feel daunting for some, so perhaps most importantly it's a chance to "break the ice" before we arrange a session.  We will also discuss "housekeeping" such as fees and cancellation.

First Session

In the first session, I will do my best to put you at ease as we talk about your counselling needs in more detail.  We will also explore how we will approach the counselling together and talk through confidentiality, boundaries and session structure so that you feel safe and informed from the very start.

Sessions are 50 minutes in length and clients often find counselling works best for them when they commit on a weekly basis.

Availability

Limited availability, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday daytime and early evening appointments.

Fees & Cancellation

  • Sessions are charged at £45 per 50 minute session

  • Payment is required at the end of the first session and then ahead of sessions thereafter

  • If you need to rearrange a session I will do my best to accommodate this although it won't always be possible.  I ask for 24 hours notice if you need to cancel an appointment, otherwise the session fee may be chargeable.
